Description
Bread stays fresh longest in the dark, at room temperature, with a little air around it. In a plastic bag it sweats and molds. On the counter it dries out. A bread bin sits right in between.
This bin is made of steel with a moss green powder coating. It measures 34 by 20 centimeters, so a whole loaf fits inside lengthwise. Rolls, croissants and a small loaf fit side by side.
Small holes in the back let in a little air. That is just enough to let moisture escape, so mold has less chance. It is not so much that the bread goes hard. A loaf stays good for three to four days.
The lid opens on a hinge and stays open while you take out the bread.
The powder coating is tough. It doesn’t chip when you put the bin down and it stands up to crumbs and a damp cloth. Once a week, shake out the crumbs and wipe the inside dry.
Keep the bin away from the stove and out of direct sunlight. Heat makes bread go stale faster.
The bamboo cutting board, large, fits in front of it.
