Description
This is the smaller brother of the terracotta plant pot 30 cm. It has the same clay, the same firing and the same hole in the bottom.
The size is chosen on purpose. Most plants from a garden center come in a plastic nursery pot of fifteen centimeters. When the roots fill that pot, the plant needs a bigger one. A 20 cm pot gives the roots room to grow for a year or two, without too much wet soil around them.
That makes it a good pot for herbs. Basil, parsley, thyme and chives all do well in it on a sunny windowsill or on a balcony.
Terracotta breathes. The clay lets air and water pass through the wall. Roots get oxygen, and excess water evaporates. In a pot this small, the soil dries out quickly in summer. Feel the soil with your finger: if the top two centimeters are dry, it is time to water.
The pot is frost resistant and can stay outside all year. Make sure it doesn’t stand in water during frost.
Use the watering can 5 liters, anthracite, to water close to the soil.
