Description
Pruning is good for plants, as long as the cut is clean. The Hoogmaat bypass pruning shears make a cut as clean as a pair of scissors.
There are two kinds of pruning shears. Anvil shears press one blade onto a flat block. That crushes the branch a little. Bypass shears have two blades that slide past each other, like scissors. The cut is smooth, and the plant heals faster. For living wood, like roses, shrubs and young fruit trees, bypass is the right choice.
These shears cut branches up to 20 millimeters thick. For thicker branches, use loppers or a saw.
A spring between the handles opens the shears after each cut. Your hand only needs to close them, which is less tiring during a long session.
The lock sits right under your thumb. Close it with one movement when you put the shears in your pocket.
When the top blade becomes dull or damaged after years of use, you can buy it separately and replace it.
Clean the blades after use and add a drop of oil. Sap that dries on the blades makes them stick.
For a hedge, use the Hoogmaat hand hedge shears.
