Description
Pruning shears are made for branches up to two centimeters. For thicker branches, you need loppers. The Hoogmaat bypass loppers cut branches up to 40 millimeters thick.
The blades work like scissors. The sharp top blade slides past the curved bottom blade. That gives a smooth, clean cut on living wood, so the branch heals quickly. This is the same bypass system as the Hoogmaat bypass pruning shears.
The handles are 70 centimeters long. Long handles act like a lever. You need much less force to cut a thick branch than with short shears. You also reach deeper into a shrub and higher into a tree, often without a ladder.
The handles are made of aluminum. They are light, so you don’t tire quickly, and strong, so they don’t bend on a thick branch.
Rubber grips at the ends give you a firm hold and absorb the shock when the branch snaps.
Cut just above a bud or a side branch, at a slight angle.
Clean the blades after use and add a drop of oil to the hinge. Sap that dries on the blades makes them stick.
For thin branches, use the Hoogmaat bypass pruning shears. For a hedge, the Hoogmaat hand hedge shears.
