Description
A long hoe is good for open soil. Between plants, you need something smaller. This hand hoe has a narrow blade that fits between lettuce, onions and perennials.
The blade is forged steel. Forging makes steel denser and stronger than cutting it from a sheet. The edge stays sharp, and it even sharpens itself a little as it moves through sandy soil.
Pull the blade toward you, just under the surface of the soil. It cuts the weeds off at the root. On a dry, sunny day, leave the cut weeds on top: they dry out and don’t grow back.
The handle is ash wood, 32 centimeters long in total. Ash is strong and doesn’t splinter. It feels warm in your hand and gives a good grip, also with gloves on.
This is a tool for working on your knees or sitting on a low stool. Use a kneeling pad and your back will thank you.
At the end of the handle is a leather loop. Hang the hoe on a hook in the shed, so the blade doesn’t lie on the ground and rust.
Wear the garden gloves, size L or size M, for more grip.
