Description
Rainwater is free, and plants like it better than tap water. It is soft and has the same temperature as the garden. A rain barrel collects it for the dry weeks of summer.
This barrel holds 210 liters. That is about twenty full watering cans of 10 liters.
Near the bottom is a brass tap. Brass doesn’t rust and lasts for years. Place the barrel on a stand of thirty centimeters high. A watering can then fits under the tap, and you don’t need to tilt the barrel.
The lid clicks shut. It keeps out leaves, which would rot in the water. It also keeps out mosquitoes, which lay their eggs in still water.
You can fill the barrel by hand, but it is easier with a diverter. You fit the diverter into the drainpipe. When it rains, water from the roof flows into the barrel. When the barrel is full, the rest flows on down the drainpipe. No overflow at your feet.
Before frost, empty the barrel and open the tap, so ice can’t damage it.
The watering can 10 liters, green, is a good match.
