Description
Terracotta breathes. Glazed ceramic does the opposite: the glaze closes the clay, so water can’t evaporate through the wall. That makes a glazed pot the better choice for plants that like moist soil, and for warm, sunny spots where terracotta dries out too fast.
This pot has a diameter of 25 centimeters. It suits a medium houseplant, a fern, a small citrus tree or a pot of herbs.
There is a hole in the bottom. Excess water runs out, so the roots don’t stand in water. Place a few stones over the hole before you add soil.
The glaze is glossy and comes in three colors: white, blue and green. The color is fired into the glaze and doesn’t fade in the sun.
The pot is fired at a high temperature and is frost resistant. It can stay outside in winter, as long as it doesn’t stand in water. Lift it onto pot feet before a frost.
Because the soil stays moist for longer, water less often than you would in terracotta. Feel the soil first.
For plants that like drier soil, see the terracotta plant pots of 20 cm and 30 cm.
