Cats are hunters. Indoor cats, especially, need to hunt in play to stay fit and relaxed. A fishing rod toy lets you play together.
The rod is 90 centimeters long and made of flexible fiberglass. At the end hangs a string with a bunch of colorful feathers. When you move the rod, the feathers flutter, dart and hide, like a bird or a mouse.
Your cat watches, crouches, wiggles and pounces. That is the full hunting cycle, and it is very satisfying for a cat.
The long rod keeps your hands away from claws and teeth. Your cat learns that hands are not toys.
Here are a few tips for good play:
– move the feathers away from your cat, not toward it, like real prey,
– let them hide behind a chair or under a blanket,
– let your cat catch them now and then, so it doesn’t get frustrated,
– end the game with a catch, and give a treat.
Ten to fifteen minutes a day, especially in the evening, helps an active cat sleep better at night.
Two spare feather toys come with it. Put the rod away after play, so your cat doesn’t chew on the string alone.
